Allergies affect millions of people worldwide, often seen as a simple nuisance that requires medication for relief. Yet, the reality can be more complex. What Are Allergies?

An allergy happens when the immune system reacts to a substance that is usually harmless. These substances, called allergens, can be pollen, dust mites, pet dander, certain foods, or even insect stings. When exposed to an allergen, the immune system mistakenly treats it as a threat and releases chemicals like histamine. This causes symptoms such as sneezing, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.

Most people think allergies are just about these immediate reactions. But allergies often reflect a deeper imbalance in the immune system or environment.

Why Do Allergies Develop?

Allergies do not appear out of nowhere. It is the result of fear, anxiety and stress which causes an overabundance of cortisol wreaking havoc in your immune system.

  • Genetics

Family history plays a significant role. If parents have allergies, children are more likely to develop them too. This suggests a 'genetic predisposition' which points to anxiety and fear in the family line.

  • Environmental Exposure

Early and repeated exposure to fear or stress determines whether someone develops allergies. Long term cortisol exposure within the body undermines our immune system.

  • Lifestyle and Diet

Modern diets high in processed foods and low in nutrients may weaken immune defenses. Lack of physical activity and increased stress also affect immune health.

Approaches to Managing Allergies

While medications like antihistamines and corticosteroids provide relief, addressing root causes can improve long-term outcomes:

  • Identify Roots

The primary cause of allergies is from fear related to not feeling safe in love and relationships. Ask yourself - Where does this stem from? Has fear been passed down? What was the root cause of not feeling safe for someone in your family line?

  • Support Immune Health

Forgive quickly. Get rid of bitterness or resentment. Take care of the temple - eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids supports immune function. Regular exercise and stress management techniques help as well.

  • Create a Healthy Environment

Your environment is what can cause you peace or stress. Whether it is at home, work or school, find the roots of fear and anxiety to in order for your body's chemical responses to regulate.

  • Consult Healthcare Professionals

If you take medications, do not stop without the guidance of a physician. Allergies are life threatening - think holistically: mind, body and spirit.
